Best practice principles
It is imperative that you understand the academic integrity rules that apply during your studies at ANU and develop best practice in the preparation of assessment items to avoid deceptive and misleading conduct. In most cases, breaches of academic integrity rules are avoidable as they are due to poor time management, the lack of a systematic approach to note-taking or familiarity with referencing, and lack of confidence with writing in your own words.
Academic Skills can help you to develop confidence with your writing and sound study skills. We have resources on time management, reading and note-taking strategies, writing, referencing, and paraphrasing. Self-enrol in our to check your own work before you submit it to your lecturers. You can also to talk to someone about any of these or other study-related topics.
Further, ANU has developed to guide you in the preparation of an assessment item. Here you will learn tips and strategies for conducting yourself and producing work with academic integrity, and best practice for avoiding plagiarism, contract cheating, collusion, and other types of academic misconduct.
Academic misconduct is very serious and may lead to a range of consequences including expulsion from the university. If you receive an email notifying you of a potential breach and something is unclear, seek clarification from your lecturer. You can also seek further support from Academic Skills, the Dean of Students, ANUSA or PARSA.
