Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre

The Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre (The Tjabal Centre) provides a meeting place and support base for the Indigenous students and staff at The Â鶹´«Ã½AV National University (ANU).

Our community comes from all across Australia, from the desert to the sea. It's a place that we can call a home away from home. At this Centre, you will find the University's Indigenous students and staff strongly committed to improving educational outcomes, achieving academic excellence and career goals that positively affect their societies.

The Tjabal Centre offers:

  • academic support and advice
  • pastoral care and personal support
  • access to quality tuition
  • advice on internships and scholarships
  • links to ANU services, such as the health centre, careers and academic skills
  • outreach programs to prospective ANU students
  • study spaces.

Welcome to Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country by Dr Matilda House.

Acknowledgement of Country

ANU acknowledges the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people, who are the Traditional Owners of the land upon which the University's Acton campus is located.

This Ngunnawal-Ngambri land supports students throughout their time at ANU. It will continue to hold a space for future generations to come together, and learn from Country and one another.

We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Indigenous peoples, past, present and future, and acknowledge that this land from which we benefit has an ancient history that is both rich and sacred.

The ANU community makes a commitment to always respect the land upon which we stand and ensure that the voices of this land's Indigenous peoples are both heard and listened to so that we may move towards a future marked by cooperation and mutual respect.

"The Tjabal Centre has been wonderful in assisting me to settle in at ANU. I've never encountered such a supportive and helpful organisation. They have educated me about the administrative side of the University as well as helped with my travel from Perth and my University accommodation at Wright Hall. Most importantly for me, the Tjabal Centre has created a very family-like environment. I feel very comfortable at ANU and in the ACT despite being away from all of my family and friends for the first time, knowing that if I have a problem they will be there to help me."
