Lucy Kirk: medical student by day, COVID-19 researcher by night

Lucy has been working as part of the ANU College of Health and Medicine COVID-19 Evidence Team. Her work has been used to inform local healthcare systems as well as State and Federal Government COVID-19 responses.

🔠Campus Updates

On Friday 31 July, the ANU community participated in a Respectful Relationships Summit. The Vice-Chancellor has provided an update. Read the update.

ANU students in Shanghai gathered last Friday night to celebrate the opening of the university's first offshore Study Hub in the city, which will run throughout Semester 2, 2020.

Join us on Friday 28 August in wearing purple for “Wear It Purple Dayâ€, a day to recognise and celebrate LGBTIQ+ inclusion, and foster supportive, safe, and empowering environments for rainbow young people. The Safe Passage Student Return pilot program has been delayed. We will continue to work with the ACT Government on this program and we will provide an update as soon as we know when it might resume.

Time is running out to take part in the Satellite Selfie! Head to your favourite spot on campus, or your nearest oval, carpark or backyard to display large designs, flags, logos or personal messages.

Join an ANU College of Law panel of experts, Dr Jonathan Liljeblad, Yun Jiang, Helen Zhang and Dr Graeme Smith (moderator) as they explore China's rule-of-law project under Xi Jinping's rule. This event is part of the ANU College of Law’s 60th anniversary celebrations.

This year, the Indonesia Update Conference has gone online. Join the ANU Indonesia Project’s four-day virtual conference unpacking the theme ‘Economic of COVID-19 in Indonesia: responding to the crisis.’

 

📚 Brain Bites - read the latest ANU research 

Supercomputer simulations could show us how to stop COVID-19. Read about how ANU researcher Associate Professor Megan O’Mara is using the Southern Hemisphere’s most powerful and fastest supercomputer to understand how coronavirus invades human cells.

ANU Archaeologists have found the earliest evidence of Indigenous communities cultivating bananas more than 2,000 years ago. The evidence of cultivation and plant management dates back 2,145 years and was found at Wagadagam on the tiny island of Mabuyag in the western Torres Strait.

Researchers have found a way to help one of Australia's rarest birds 'self-fumigate' or safeguard their nests, to protect their young from deadly parasites.
