ANU has ranked 30th in the , confirming the University’s place among the best in the world. Among Â鶹´«Ã½AV universities ANU is ranked fourth. 

ANU has improved in six of the nine indicators evaluated by the higher education analytics firm. This includes improvements in international research collaboration, employment outcomes, sustainability and reputation among employers. 

It wasn’t just the overall rankings where ANU hit the top 30. ANU recorded a significant increase in sustainability rankings — from outside the top 100 up to 30th worldwide. ANU is one of the few universities across the globe to set itself ambitious targets to reach below zero emissions.

For many students, the concept of university brings to mind thoughts of textbooks, lecture halls and classrooms. However, there is one very special subject at ANU that is ditching educational norms and pioneering Indigenous led, on Country, justice education in a tertiary setting.   

The in conjunction with the and the Oonchiumpa Consultancy Services have developed a course based on the practice of deep listening as a powerful education tool with the potential to transform legal education and understandings of justice.   

Law students spend a weeklong intensive on Country visiting courtrooms, sleeping in swags underneath the stars and most importantly listening deeply to the and perspectives of Traditional Owners, Elders, Aboriginal lawyers, educators, interpreters and justice leaders.

Several distinguished members of our community have been named on the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours list for their significant contributions. ANU Council member Alison Kitchen has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her service to business, government roles and the community. 

Trailblazers in Asian studies were also celebrated with Yohanni Bey Johns, a long-time lecturer in Indonesian studies, awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her significant contributions to Indonesian teaching in Australia. 

ANU graduate and newly appointed Governor-General Samantha Mostyn added Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) to her already long list of achievements for leading change in areas such as gender equity. While Dr Stephanie Davis was acknowledged with a Public Service Medal for her exceptional dedication and response during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Congratulations to all those in the ANU community who were recognised in this year's Honours.

The and ANU were commissioned by to review the current state of climate change impacts on the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Alps and puts forward recommendations for a better path forward. Enjoy the report launch with an informative panel discussion with lead author, PhD student Ruby Olsson, Professor Adrienne Nicotra, Associate Professor Richard Swain and Senator David Pocock. 

 

Tuesday 25 June, 9.30am-3.30pm 

Gain an introduction to Indigenous history and culture in Australia through this interactive workshop by Dave Widders, an Anaiwan man from Armidale NSW. Dave is an experienced presenter who promotes reconciliation through a two-way education process. 

This course provides a key starting point to recognising the impact of words, behaviour and ways of engagement to drive mutual understanding and respect.

Level D-E academics are invited to join the upcoming online town hall meeting with ANU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Lachlan Blackhall. Professor Blackhall will share his strategic vision for the Research and Innovation Portfolio at ANU. This session will provide a platform for dialogue, offering an opportunity to engage directly with the DVCRI and ask any questions you may have.

These topics will be dissected through interactive dialogues, with an eye towards future directions in scholarship shaping discipline.

are offering a professional development course for staff who would like to develop their skills in effective performance conversations. This course will help participants understand the key components of performance management including expectation setting, empowerment, evaluation, reward and ongoing feedback.

2023/2024 Income Statement

Your 2023/2024 Income Statement will be available through ATO online services using myGov, or through your registered tax agent.  

Income statements will be finalised after the end of financial year and will be available by 14 July 2024. The information in your income statement will be automatically pre-filled in your 2024 income tax return.

When your income statement has been finalised, the status within your myGov account will change to 'Tax ready'. This means the information is ready for you to use in your tax return. 

If you don't have a myGov account you can easily create one using an email address and password, then link your myGov to the ATO. You can register for an account at .  

If you cannot create or access a myGov account and don't use a registered agent, you can call the ATO on 13 28 61 and they will provide this information to you.

Updating your details and address in HORUS

To ensure your income statement is available to you as soon as possible, it is important to ensure your personal contact details within  are correct, and that if you have an ATO online account, this also has your correct contact details.   

Please take the opportunity to check and, if required, update your contact and address details. 

Salary sacrificing

Staff members who sacrifice salary for benefits such as extra superannuation, campus childcare and on campus parking fees, frequently enquire about the reported gross earnings when they receive their income statement. If you had a salary sacrificing arrangement in place during the 2023/2024 financial year, your taxable earnings will be reduced by the amount equivalent to the salary sacrifice deduction (i.e. before tax). Therefore, your income statement will show an amount less than your normal annual salary.

Spring Valley Farm is a plot of farmland located in southwest Canberra, leased by ANU as a space to undertake research activities. The farm is available to all ANU schools and colleges for use. The have taken over the management of Spring Valley Farm and have developed WHS procedures for accessing the farm. To gain access to the farm, existing and prospective colleges and schools must complete a request to access form, complete an online site-specific induction and submit relevant WHS documentation pertaining to their activities.

The ANU Library is pleased to announce its new Read and Publish agreement with Cold Spring Harbour Laboratory Press – leading publishers in the areas of molecular biology, cancer studies, neuroscience, plant biology and genetics. 

This agreement allows ANU authors to publish open access in a selection of their journals without having to pay article processing charges.  

 

The new Rights, Relationships and Respect in Research program is live for HDR candidates and their supervisors. The online learning module will introduce you to core concepts relating to respectful relationships and sexual consent, as well as important information about ANU care and support services. 

The course is also a qualifying registration renewal activity for HDR supervisors.
