ANU community members acknowledged in 2024 Australia Day Honours

Several extraordinary members of The Â鶹´«Ã½AV National University (ANU) community have been named in the 2024 Australia Day Honours list.

This year’s honours list recognises and celebrates 1,042 Â鶹´«Ã½AVs. It includes awards in the Order of Australia (General and Military Divisions), meritorious awards and recognition for distinguished and conspicuous service.

Three current ANU staff and three emeritus staff members were among those recognised by Governor-General David Hurley for their outstanding achievements across a broad range of fields, and their invaluable contribution to Â鶹´«Ã½AV society.

Sophie Trevitt’s remarkable legacy

ANU Reporter pays tribute to the legacy of an extraordinary young graduate who dedicated her life to changing the world. 

An award-winning human rights lawyer, Sophie led an inspiring fight for social justice issues and fearlessly campaigned for the rights of incarcerated First Nations children and their families.

In December, ANU recognised her passion and dedication to achieving social change, naming her of the Young Alumna of the Year award.

Meet our Commencement speaker Ashleigh Streeter-Jones

Described by Forbes Magazine as a “youthful visionary”, ANU alumna Ashleigh Streeter-Jones has worked in youth advocacy and campaigns since she was a teenager.

Ashleigh is a passionate change maker and focuses on closing societal gaps, particularly those faced by women and young people from traditionally marginalised backgrounds.

Norms, Storytelling and International Institutions in China: The Imperative to Narrate 

Friday 2 February, 12.30-2pm

Do emerging powers reinforce or reshape the existing international order? In this seminar, Dr Lu will discuss how this crucial case contributes to our understanding of the ways in which China is shaping, and is shaped by, international development norms, and will present new research findings based on recent fieldwork. 

Presented by the ANU College of Asia & the Pacific, this seminar series is part of a research project on .
