Ms Sue Fraser
Susan Fraser has been an innovator and entrepreneur throughout her working life. This work has been with a focus of developing new programs to meet the needs of consumers with a range of vulnerabilities, provision of information needs to both navigate the existing markets. These programs have spanned family and domestic violence, energy affordability and efficiency, financial counselling in various environments from youth hostels to hospital-based children’s cancer wards. This work has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal, and the Jan Pentland Award.
Susan was the originator of Uniting’s Social Impact Consulting, and until recently the Senior Manager working with business, government and community agencies to achieve better outcomes for vulnerable customers, this work is national and international. This work has resulted in significant regulatory reforms to support and enable those with vulnerabilities.
With over 45 years’ experience in the welfare sector, she has pioneered work that addresses disadvantage and builds on the strength of consumers experiencing vulnerabilities. Recognised with two Prime Minister’s Awards for Community Business Partnerships, a Centenary Medal for her community service.
Committed to social justice, access and equity, her work has a focus on early intervention, prevention programs, with a strengths-based approach.
Her work in identifying need and designing appropriate programs has changed the face of financial counselling. And her work with industry has been credited as being groundbreaking with bringing together industry and the community sector changing the way we relate and delivering consumer outcomes.
With work experience spanning working with youth in residential settings, working with and support those who are pregnant as a result of rape and incest, energy efficiency and affordability, and family and domestic violence with a focus on financial abuse/coercive control, and engagement with industry, ombudsman and regulators, to achieve both participation and fairness in processes.
Susan sits on a range of bodies advocating for better outcomes for all, but particularly with a focus of those who often have a range of vulnerabilities. Her source of truth is the consumers who have had the experience or impacted by the systems and society, coupled with her own personal and professional experiences.
