ARC Future Fellow
School of Archaeology and Anthropology

I am an associate professor of archaeology in the School of Archaeology and Anthropology (CASS), where I have been faculty since 2012. My research addresses how we can construct a more complex and nuanced past to help us understand our present and build a better, more equitable future. It straddles HASS and STEM, and addresses major topics like technological change and innovation, kinship, and migration. I have won numerous teaching awards, including a national OLT award for excellence in teaching in 2015, and I am currently a Future Fellow.

My leadership philosophy is collaborative and consensus-based, centring openness, transparency, solidarity, and fairness. I have developed this through service on ANU’s university research committee, an appointment as one of ANU’s Distinguished Educators, and acting as union delegate for my area, among other positions with scholarly collectives and in academic publishing. As a member of ANU Council, I will draw on my experience across these roles and institutions and put my values in action to promote a more responsive, flatter, and just institution that sees its future growing out of and enhancing our wider ANU community.
